The City of National City Library currently has one (1) temporary, part-time vacancy for their Local History Room.

THE POSITION:

Under direction, to plan, organize, and oversee the operation of the Kile Morgan Local History Room; perform professional library work in local history; responsible for research services and provide effective access to the archival collections; and perform related duties as required.

SCHEDULE:
– Monday- Thursday, 1:00pm- 5:00pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide reference and research services by email, telephone, mail, and in person.
  • Evaluate records and prepare record-keeping systems for preservation and retention of records
  • Catalog, process, manage, and maintain archival collections in a variety of formats
  • Create and maintain accessible computer archives and databases
  • Compile finding aids, reference guides, statistics and reports
  • Promote work through exhibitions, presentations, talks and visits
  • Coordinate and lead digitization projects
  • Establish and administer policy guidelines concerning public access and use of materials
  • Write and administer grants
  • Coordinate educational and public outreach programs such as tours and instructional workshops

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a standard course in an accredited library school with concentration in archival studies or coursework in archives and manuscript management and two (2) years of professional experience in a library; OR
  • Master’s degree in library science and one (1) year professional archival experience.

SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Provides for storage and distribution of all technical documents such as drawings, technical manuals, specification, mil specs/standards, etc. required in support of all naval and commercial repair contracts
  • Maintains Repair Technical Library as the focal storage and distribution point for repair contract technical documents
  • eBook work packaging and distribution of Work Item(s) and related technical documents
  • Flag and maintain list of technical documents that are un-obtainable and report to supervisor
  • Ensure and demonstrate that Export Compliance protocol is followed

 

SKIILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High School graduate; preferably with some college or technical training
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not required
  • Ability to learn in cataloging engineering documentation such as drawings and technical manuals
  • Ability to learn in cataloging Navy documentation such as NSTM, MIL-Specs/Standards, SIDs, SDI’s, CDRLs, etc.

Physical Demands dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must maintain mental alertness and all safety requirements, particularly when transiting in production areas. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 10% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is usually low to moderate in office environments and moderate to noisy in production environments 70% of the time. Production noise may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

SUMMARY

Assists the Library & Archives Director in the general operation of the Library & Archives, primarily the electronic cataloging and use of the library collection. Works under limited supervision and is expected to uphold the highest ethical standards of professional librarianship in maintaining and protecting the Museum’s Library & Archives collection.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Library & Archives Director in acquisition, preservation, cataloging, processing, and maintenance of the library collection (including books, periodicals, manuscripts, a/v materials, drawings, maps, manuals, etc.) in accordance with accepted library and cataloging practices
  • Catalog books into the online library system (some original cataloging will be required)
  • Establish cataloging and implementation procedures for non-book materials
  • Responsible for establishing metadata criteria for library and archival materials
  • Train, instruct, and supervise Library & Archives volunteers and interns in accordance with Museum policy
  • Assist Museum staff, volunteers, and researchers in accessing and interpreting contents of the collection and providing in-depth research services, using all types of library and archival materials relating to aviation and aerospace history and technology
  • Insure the security of the collection in accordance with established policies
  • Seek, accept, register, and process incoming book and periodical donations
  • Assist with the disposition of surplus materials to control collection content, size, and enhance revenue
  • Assist in the preparation of Museum publications
  • Participate in Museum special functions, which may require travel by automobile and/or commercial aircraft to perform duties
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in library science. Education and or experience in a field related to aerospace history and or technology is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge and experience in acquiring, organizing, cataloging, processing, and maintaining of all types of library materials
  • Strong knowledge and experience in research methods and the use of reference materials
  • Knowledge and understanding of archival principles, methods, procedures, and techniques
  • Ability to interact with and serve the needs of the general public in a manner that reflects positively on the Museum
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers including students through retirees
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in the configuration and use of computerized database programs
  • Skill in organizing library resources and establishing priorities
  • Knowledge of MARC and AACR2 Cataloging Rules
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge

WORKING CONDITIONS

Although the physical demands of the position are slight, the ability to carry books, push heavy book trucks, and climb ladders to retrieve books from top shelves is a necessity. Work may be performed in an office, museum, or field environment. Very limited exposure to physical risk. The Museum is a non-smoking, drug-free workplace.

hourly librarian to set up library InterAmerican College – National City

IAC needs to set up a library in order for the BPPE approval. The job is to set up the library system for small college library using the library of congress system. there is no special schedule. The librarian can choose the hours of work.

Under the general direction of the Associate University Librarian for Enterprise Services, the Director of the Information Technology Services (ITS) program directs and leads a team of technical professionals responsible for the design, delivery, and maintenance of the information technology infrastructure. The Director will provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for library-wide technological services and initiatives. Provides strategic advice to library administration with regards to information technology policy, strategy, and security. Establishes and manages successful strategic and collaborative relationships with campus and external groups involved in the design, maintenance and delivery of information technology initiatives.
