This year our focus will be on innovation, progress, initiative, and adaptability when times call for increased creativity. We call for proposals by librarians who have improved their library spaces, outreach and marketing, processes, and/or user experiences with innovative techniques, ideas or programs. How does your special, academic, or public library respond to or create opportunities when surprises and challenges arise?

We’ll be sending out our call for proposals soon. We look forward to hearing your ideas and hope to see you there. It’s shaping up to be an exciting event, and we’re looking forward to exploring a great new venue.  It’s sure to inspire creativity!

Hello 2017 from SLA-SD President Greg Sorini

Hello 2017 from SLA-SD President Greg Sorini

Happy New Year to you all and I hope your holidays were pleasant.

I wanted to take a moment to say hello as I take on my new role as President of SLA-San Diego.  I’ve met some of you last year as President-Elect and look forward to working with more of you this year.  As you know SLA has undergone some big changes this last year, putting a new management company in place, the appointment of RBC as new wealth managers, the sale of the headquarters building, SLA Connect as the new communication platform and an increasing national membership.   All positive changes resulting in a new energy around SLA.

Locally, we have some new Board members.  Welcome to Isabelle Garcia (President-Elect), Susan Alden (Archivist), Andrew Blatchford (Membership Chair) and Ana Bellini (Student Liaison).  And thank you to all of those Board members who are staying on for another term.  I’m hoping that 2017 will prove to be a banner year for our local chapter, that we can grow our membership and continue to offer opportunities to network and learn.

Our first Board Meeting will be in February, exact date and time to follow.  This is an open meeting during which Board members will report on chapter activities and discuss new and old business.  All are welcome to attend.

There are a couple of projects that I’d like to focus on this year:

  • Developing a more active social networking presence, especially with library school students
  • Examining and updating SLA-SD’s archives and archival process

I’d also love to hear about anything that you would like to see happen with our chapter.  Feel free to reach out to me with ideas and suggestions.

SLA Headquarters has some upcoming virtual trainings that you should take advantage of.  Be sure to take a look at these and more on SLA Connect.  NOTE: Times listed are EST.

January 18, 2017, 1 – 3:30pm EST: Virtual Leadership Summit

February 8, 2017, 12 – 1pm EST: Unit Toolkits & Communications
