Position Information

This is a part-time (.5 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 06/30/2019, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The Library Services Specialist – Digital Services position will be responsible for the following:

  • Create metadata for the library’s Islandora based institutional repository. Metadata creation projects include university publications; student and faculty works; and audio visual materials. The incumbent will use the library’s customized batch import system.
  • Quality control check existing metadata records and perform corrections and alterations according to the department’s standards.
  • Standardize and correct fields for records within the library’s digital asset management system in preparation for the migration into Islandora. This includes, and is not limited to, date fields; geographic fields; and keyword fields.
  • Use the department’s criteria to quality control check incoming images.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $1,597 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $1,551 – $2,904.50 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Incumbents at this level work independently to perform more complex technical tasks in a specified functional area within a library unit and may provide functional oversight for assigned area. Work requires them to be fully proficient in all aspects, methods and procedures associated with their assigned functional area, including the ability to use judgment in interpreting policies and solving problems, and a general knowledge of overall library activities, policies and procedures. Incumbents also may be responsible for coordinating work of student workers assigned to the area and may participate in hiring, training, evaluating and payroll processing of student workers.

These qualifications for entry to Position Skill Level II normally would be obtained through the completion of a high school education or equivalent certification plus two to three years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Experience with data entry
  • Experience working with a focus on detail
  • Experience working across computer operating environments
  • Experience with metadata schema such as MODS, Dublin Core, VRACore, or other
  • Experience with an institutional repository or digital asset management system
