The Research Librarian will receive a generous total compensation package. Bonuses are awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance. The Research Librarian is responsible for providing research services involving legal, business, and general information sources to attorneys, paralegals and staff using a variety of research tools. He or she is also responsible for providing training and awareness of research resources. Your responsibilities will include these and other critical functions:

  • Conducting domestic and international legal and non-legal research utilizing appropriate research tools and directs users to appropriate resources; analyzing results for relevancy and appropriateness to the specific research request
  • Compiling and organizing information obtained in research projects into a coherent, focused collection of information, accompanied by explanatory notes or memoranda if relevant, so that the material is readily understandable to the user; working with attorneys requesting information and compiling and organizing information according to attorney preference
  • Monitoring current industry and legal developments for the practice group and informing attorneys of important events through emails, bulletins or other appropriate means
  • Promoting awareness and training amongst the attorneys about research resources available to them, both internally and externally, working with Knowledge Management and Strategic Research as necessary
  • Maintaining familiarity with library operational functions
  • Completing special projects on various issues as assigned
  • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers

The successful Research Librarian will have knowledge of print and electronic legal and non-legal research resources; strong analytical skills; ability to organize collections of materials and information; well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm; strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to work as a team player; capable of collaborating with research staff in their own and other offices and drawing on the individual skills of the members of the research team to complete all aspects of an assignment; ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion; ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines; and knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office, Adobe and SharePoint and other applications.

A bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s of Library Science (MLS) or Postgraduate Diploma in Library Information Studies is preferred. A Master’s degree in another specialty may be considered in lieu of the MLS or Postgraduate Diploma in Library Information Studies. A minimum of three (3) years of research experience in a law firm library may be substituted for the Master’s degree or Postgraduate Diploma.
