San Diego County Library is seeking qualified candidates for the position of
LIBRARY TECHNICIAN I
(permanent full/part-time & hourly part-time positions available)
PER COUNTY RULES, THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $28,267.20 ANNUALLY. COUNTY EMPLOYEES ARE SUBJECT TO THE COUNTY PROMOTION RULE FOR STEP PLACEMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH COMPENSATION ORDINANCE SECTION 1.3.5.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Provide courteous, high quality customer service to members of the public by personally responding to information requests in person or by phone. This is the entry level class in the Library Technician series. The incumbent in this position will perform paraprofessional library services and varied clerical tasks in a branch library or headquarters division.

HOURLY PART-TIME POSITIONS
Intermittent Appointments are limited to 120 work days in the July-June 30 fiscal year.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE
Six (6) months of full-time paid or voluntary work experience in a public, academic or school, church or community library; completed course of study in library use and techniques; library use as a high school student; paid or volunteer work with public contact; or other related experience and/or training.

Note: A Library Technology certificate or an associate’s degree from and accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in Library Science is desirable.

EVALUATION PROCESS
Qualified candidates will be placed on a 6 month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation contained on their employment and supplemental applications. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application questionnaire will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.

At the department level, candidates will participate in a performance test which will assess competencies in the following areas: cash register procedures (math), shelving of materials to include alpha/numerical filing, and packing/unpacking of materials. Candidates must successfully pass all three components of the performance test to advance in the selection process.
