Library Technician – Alliant International University – San Diego Campus

The Library Technician, under the general direction of the University Librarian, will be responsible for circulation services including Paging/LINK+. The Library Technician will also assist course reserves for the San Diego Campus.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist at Circulation desk with standard library functions such as handling library books and materials for students, updating patrol files in Millennium Circulation, processing collection of fines and book sales, answering telephone inquiries, processing notices and invoices for unreturned materials, and assisting patrons with locating books and library materials.
  • Support Link+/Intra-Library Loan Services by preparing book shipments to over 40 libraries in California including 200-600 items per month to Alliant campuses, keeping record of outgoing shipments and shipping weights.
  • Monitor problem requests and check-holds reports, manage statistics on Paging/LINK+, and run standard reports needed for the daily management of library functions.
  • Schedule and supervise student workers as needed.
  • Process reserve material received from San Diego faculty for course reserves.
  • Create or update reserve records ensuring all material is searchable the Library’s catalog, and assist with e-reserves including scanning items and creating searchable records in catalog.
  • Manage books and materials so they are easily checked out in Millennium Circulation, coordinate returning physical reserve materials at end of term, and update e-reserve records status.
  • Assist Librarian in charge of psychological tests, as needed.
  • Attend local LINK+ meetings.
  • Other duties as needed.

Job Requirements:

Education: Two year degree or higher, library technician degree preferred.

Experience:

  • At least two years library experience; in academic environment is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications and HTML. Experience with Innovative’s Millennium (MilCirc, Innopac, Guicat), preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support Link+/Intra-Library Loan Services including training of student assistance on process
  • Process reserve material and maintain records
  • Assist at Circulation Desk with standard library functions.

Management Skills:

  • Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions with minimal supervision
  • Build and maintain quality relationships with students, faculty and staff

Supervisor Responsibilities: Indirect supervision of Library student workers
