Volunteer Opportunity: Archival Assistant, The San Diego Museum of Art Library

Reports to: Manager, Library & Archives

Position Overview:Digitally scan printed materials in archives and format for Internet viewing

Specific Tasks:

  • Digitally scan printed archival materials (catalogs, newsletters, and other ephemera)
  • Process scanned images in Photoshop to maximize legibility and general appearance
  • Link processed images with OPAC records so that patrons can view full-text files via the Internet

Time Requirement:Hours flexible; six to eight hours per week (two shifts of three or four hours) would be optimal


Physical: Ability to navigate stairs and reach all areas of the library, and to use a computer keyboard

Skills/Education/Experience:  Good working knowledge of flatbed scanning equipment and software as well as Photoshop, good general computer skills and ability to learn the use of the library’s catalog software (OPAC), good competence in spelling, and good attention to detail.
